Nursing Jobs & Working Holiday Visas Australia

Nursing Jobs in Australia

Join our international partners and work either temporary (3 month) or longer term positions in Australia. Travel, work and live abroad for a wonderful adventure! Positions are available in either the big cities (e.g. Sydney, Melbourne), or small towns (e.g. Gold Coast).

Working Conditions

In order to qualify for nursing jobs in Australia, you must be a Registered Nurse in Canada or the United States, and hold a current, active state/provincial license. In addition, our partners require a minimum of one year of recent, North American, acute-care hospital experience.

Pay rates for nurses are governed by statutory awards and vary from state to state. Earnings depend on factors such as your length of experience, whether you work in private or public hospitals or aged care, and whether your place of residence entitles you to tropical or other allowances. Although pay rates may not be as attractive in comparison to those offered to nurses in the Middle East, for example, the cost of living is not expensive and nurses are seen as middle-earners in Australian salary terms.

Process

If you would like to work in Australia, you may do so either on a Working Holiday Visa (WHV) or via sponsorship.

Working Holiday Program: The Working Holiday Program provides opportunities for people between 18 and 30 to holiday in Australia or New Zealand and to supplement their travel funds through incidental employment. The visa allows a stay of up to 12 months from the date of first entry. You are allowed to do any kind of work of a temporary or casual nature, and you can work with each employer for up to three months.

If travelling on a Working Holiday Visa, you are far better off securing a position before you leave to ensure that everything is in order. Contact us to make the connections.

Sponsorship: To be eligible for sponsorship, you will need to hold a valid passport and be interviewed (this may be able to be arranged locally for you in some instances) so as to verify your employment history, qualifications and references.

Once we have established your credentials, we will instigate a job search relating to your chosen field/s of nursing and preferred destination. At this point, you will need to apply for your registration to work as a nurse in Australia or New Zealand (we will help you through the process) and be prepared to undertake medical and x-ray examinations performed at certified medical centres. Sponsorship approval is usually completed within 3 weeks and a nomination letter is then forwarded to you to submit with your other documents to the Consulate in Ottawa. The length of this stage depends on the efficiency of the consulates in Canada and concludes, if successful, with the issuance of your visa.
